Student Ambassador opportunities

There are a number of opportunities to work whilst you're studying, with flexible paid roles across the university.

AskBU Student Services - applications open

The purpose of the role is to assist the AskBU Student Advisers at busy times of service delivery to support students, staff and members of the public contacting the AskBU Students Service and to provide professional, appropriate, timely and customer focussed information and guidance. You will be answering general queries and referring service users to appropriate sources of information and help where these require a higher level of knowledge and expertise. You will be expected to work within the Data Protection Act and confidentiality guidelines at all times.

You will be a current BU student who is an effective team worker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to service excellence. 

Appointments will be on a casual agreement basis and successful recruits would be expected to participate in a rota, working approximately one full day for each of the first 2 weeks at the start of the academic year and one or more 2 hour shifts per week during the later weeks of the autumn term and spring term. Ad hoc opportunities may also arise.

Library & Learning Support - applications open

Would you like to develop your customer service and problem solving skills? Would you like to work in a rewarding environment that will allow you to help a wide range of users? We are looking to recruit 10 friendly and confident Student Assistants to be part of the library’s Student Assistant team.

You must be a current student at BU with knowledge of the services offered by the University library and able to work on your own initiative.

This role entails working 4-6 hours per week in the library at Talbot Campus. You will help users in a variety of areas, including printing and IT, using the self-service machines and finding resources. A willingness to learn and being proactive is very important in this role.

As part of your application we are asking you to submit a short video explaining ‘why you chose your course, why you love it and why you would make a good student ambassador. We’re not shortlisting you based on the quality of your video/filming – it’s just our way of meeting you without having to interview 200+ students. Think of the submission as your interview – an interview where you get to plan your answers in advance and re-record your response as many times as you like!ΩWithin Marketing & Communications the Student Ambassadors and Leaders play a pivotal role in much of BU's marketing and outreach activity. If you remember how important it was to meet a current student at an open day, school visit or mentoring session in your school, you'll know why Ambassadors play a big part in everything we do.

There are lots of opportunities to specialise in outreach activities within schools and colleges. In addition, supporting Graduation ceremonies, NSS marketing, and much, much more. You can apply to any of our five overarching roles:

Applications process - applications are now closed

  • Applications for 2017/18 will be live from Monday 18 September
  • The deadline for submission is midnight on Sunday 8 October 2017
  • You must submit a written application (online, through myCareerHub) and video element to your application. You will include the video link as part of your application on myCareerHub - if you don't, we wont be able to consider your application.

What should I include in my video?

You will need to submit a video element to your application. This should be a short (two - three minute) video explaining ‘why you chose your course, why you love it, and why you would make a good Student Ambassador’.

Please note that we will only consider applicants for this role who have submitted both a written and video application.

When will I find out if I've been successful?

Applicants will be advised if they have been successful or unsuccessful on Friday 13 October 2017. All successful applicants will then be required to attend a training session on Wednesday 18 October, 3pm-8pm on Talbot Campus. 

IT Services - applications currently closed

BU's IT Services department are looking to recruit part-time Student Ambassadors to provide over the counter support at both Talbot and Lansdowne campuses throughout the academic year. You will have great communication and customer service skills to be able to provide support, information and guidance to both staff and students with a variety of IT enquiries including, but not limited to:

  • Wireless and wired connectivity issues
  • Printing queries
  • Formatting documents
  • Software and hardware issues
  • First line IT help and advice.
