Chesil House is a relatively small accommodation block - home to just over 200 students - on our Lansdowne Campus. There is a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate residents, making it a reasonably quiet and relaxed place to live.
It is within easy walking distance of all our buildings on Lansdowne, as well as close to Bournemouth town centre and the beach. The university bus service (U1 and U4) picks up and drops off right outside and it’s around a five-minute walk to Bournemouth train station. You're also close to a large ASDA, a Co-op, numerous cafes, bars and restaurants, and the Students' Union-run Old Fire Station.
There are five or six-bed cluster flats for undergraduate and postgraduate students, each with an open-plan, shared kitchen and living area equipped with sofas, stools, tables, storage cupboards and all of the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need. For postgraduate students, there are also studio flats, located in a separate block. These have their own kitchen area, as well as bedroom and living space.
All of the rooms come with a single bed, desk, shelves, wardrobe, chest of drawers and ensuite as standard.
Chesil House has a large common room that is open to all residents. It features comfy seats and a TV, as well as having a separate movie room equipped with a projector, big screen and sofas. There is also a card-operated laundry room that you can access 24 hours a day.
There is someone at reception 24 hours a day, as well as onsite security and the whole building is monitored by CCTV. The staff here do their best to make everyone feel welcome and get involved with the community by hosting events such as pizza and movie nights.
CLV runs Chesil House in partnership with BU, so your contract will be with them rather than the university. CLV operates the V Plus scheme that gives residents the chance to go on various outings at reduced costs. CLV also has an online shop where you can buy essential items - such as kitchen equipment and bedding - before you arrive.
