As part of our Global Talent Programme (GTP) our careers team has joined forces with start-up super connectors, Empact, and their partners C6(n), Enswarm, Linkilaw, Mucho, TicketPass and the Venus Awards to bring their Venture Lab to BU.
Over two afternoon sessions on campus, you - our aspiring leaders - will have the opportunity to develop a solution in response to real-life business challenges the Venture Lab partners are facing right now.
You’ll be offered support, mentoring and guidance from the founders and management team of the companies involved in the Venture Lab. They represent a mixture of cutting-edge tech start-ups and SMEs and their profile are below. There are also some amazing prizes up for grabs including summer internships and personal mentoring, as well as a certificate from Empact Ventures with a reference from Empact CEO, Kosta Mavroulakis.
Kosta - the man behind Empact, and former campaigns manager for StartUp Britain – shared his belief that: "Bournemouth is quickly emerging as a valuable part of the UK’s start-up ecosystem thanks to both recent and established initiatives available to companies of all sizes, such as Meetdraw, Silicon Beach, the Venus Awards, THIS Workspace and more”.
He continued: "We’re delighted to offer our Venture Labs to aspiring student leaders, entrepreneurs and growing start-ups at Bournemouth University, where we aim to inspire and educate students about the journies of experienced company founders, as well as connect and support them first-hand through this practical challenge to showcase their talent".
The two session event will focus on global challenges, building campaigns, social enterprise and stakeholder engagement making it the perfect opportunity to achieve the Disciplined Researcher badge of the GTP.

The start-up super connectors that design and deliver local to international start-up initiatives, and support the development, growth and sustainability of high-growth start-ups and SMEs. Empact Ventures CEO, Kosta Mavroulakis, has spent the past decade delivering start-up initiatives at a local to international level, supporting young entrepreneurs and start-ups at all stages of their journeys in the process. This includes, working locally and regionally to help establish over 100 student-led enterprise societies in UK universities and further education colleges as one of the founding team of the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs (NACUE), as well as leading the UK's largest campaign for small businesses, StartUp Britain, for over two years and its nationwide bus tour (which dropped into Bournemouth on two occasions), and co-organising the India Tech Summit at the Houses of Parliament in November 2017.
With their holistic approach to reinventing construction, C6(n) are bringing positive change to the world by shifting mind sets of what a building is and how it functions, their ideas have grown as ambitious as their temporary carbon-fibre structures used to create beautiful experiences for festivals, indoor exhibitions and major brands.
Enswarm kills meetings enabling teams of any size to effortlessly answer the most critical questions, generate innovative ideas, and move to clear action. It was founded by a former military helicopter pilot in the army where he served for 11 years in significant leadership positions, culminating as UK Head of Operations for helicopters in Afghanistan.
The legal platform for start-ups and SME’s providing an a online marketplace where clients can compare and make the best choice from an all-star virtual lawyer community. Linkilaw is made up of a team of 30 people based in UK and Portugal, and founded by a 25-year old female entrepreneur who has been featured in the Forbes 30 under 30.
An AI-powered grocery shopping platform providing free personalised recommendations to each customer, adapting to their taste and diet, minimising leftover wastage, fitting their budget and family size. Mucho was founded by a recently secured investment, has been recognised as a finalist of the Waitrose Accelerator JLab and is part of the Empact Growth Studio.

The Venus Awards
Referred to as the Working Women’s Oscars, the Venus Awards were formed in 2009 to recognise, reward and celebrate local working women in business. The Venus Awards began in Dorset and has since exploded into other regions across the country. Culminating with an annual National Final that truly represents the inspirational women who balance and juggle their lives relentlessly and unconditionally, who inject their communities with a sense of feminine robustness and solidity only a woman can provide.
