Following a very successful launch in 2017 and feedback from students, the laptop loan service will be expanded by an additional 60 MacBook Airs in the spring taking the total number available for loan to 72.
As part of this expansion you will be able to borrow laptops from two new locations - the Sir Michael Cobham Library on Talbot Campus and the Bournemouth House Library on Lansdowne Campus. Details are as follows:
- An additional 12 laptops will be available from the Student Centre, making 24 laptops available for loan
- 36 laptops will be available for loan from the new location at the Sir Michael Cobham Library
- 12 laptops will be available for loan from the new location at the Bournemouth House Library.
This expansion will further increase your flexibility to work from a BU computer anywhere on campus and not be restricted to the Open Access Centres or the Library.
Further details regarding the expansion of this service will follow on the run up to implementation.
The laptops have several applications installed on them including Microsoft Office and Skype. They can be borrowed for up to 4 hours and can be taken anywhere on either campus. They will have been charged before you borrow them, so you don’t need to find a charging point or plug socket – you can simply grab a comfortable spot in any building and log on to the BU-Student wireless network.
To gain access to a loan laptop, you’ll need your student card and to follow the simple instructions on the terminal screen. Once you’ve authenticated and agreed to the terms and conditions, scan your student card on the reader of an available locker to open the door and take the laptop.
When the laptop is returned to a locker, you will need to plug it in to the provided power adapter so it will charge for the next user, complete your loan and avoid a fine.
