We are involved in world-leading research projects, and collaborate with public and private sector organisations around the globe.
Our staff are active across a variety of research themes and travel around the world to contribute their expertise to expeditions and projects being led by other academic institutions and private organisations, as well as taking the lead on their own research projects.
Within BU, we contribute to one research institute - the Institute for Studies in Landscape and Human Evolution - and ten research centres, all of which involve collaboration with experts from complementary fields. Broadly, our research concentrates on the following themes:
- Technology & Design
- Creative, Digital & Cognitive Science
- Health, Wellbeing & Society
- Biodiversity, Environmental Change & Green Economy
- Communities, Cultures & Conflicts
As well as the work that our academics are involved with, we have a number of postgraduate researchers within the faculty who contribute to our exciting and thriving research culture.
Every year, we offer several fully-funded doctoral studentships to support postgraduate researchers. Typically, these are associated with specific projects or areas of research that the faculty is involved with. You can find out about current opportunities for funded PhD studentships on our dedicated research site.
