A quick guide to ClearingRead our full guide
Who can apply through Clearing?
Clearing is the last opportunity for you to find a place at university this September.
It’s for prospective students who haven’t got the results they expected, applied after the 30 June UCAS deadline, or those who haven’t already applied. If you’re not currently living in the UK, you can apply directly.
Are there still places remaining?

Do I need to apply through UCAS?
If you’ve already applied through UCAS earlier in the cycle, or direct to Clearing, you can add BU as your Clearing choice when you receive an offer.
At BU we will also accept direct applications, and will ask you to complete a ‘Record of Prior Acceptance’ (RPA) form if we have made you an offer without a UCAS application. Apply using our RPA form.
What funding is available to Clearing students?
In addition to the general funding available to students through Student Finance England, Clearing applicants can access our range of bursaries and scholarships – whether you’re changing your uni choice or making a fresh application.
This includes our Academic Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 for UK/EU students, or £2,500 for international students, who achieve AAA at A-level, or triple Distinction at BTEC level (or other equivalents). We also have a Maintenance Bursary of up to £3,500, a Care Leavers Bursary of up to £16,000, and the BU Student Carer’s Bursary of £600.
Watch Student Finance England’s video for more information about what you need to do to secure your student finance if you’ve applied through Clearing.
How do I accept my place at BU?
Once you have been made an offer verbally from BU, we will send you an email confirmation of that offer. This email will also contain information on what you need to do next, including adding us as your Clearing choice on UCAS Track. Don’t worry if your status doesn’t immediately change to Unconditional Firm after you’ve done this – your offer will still stand.

My experience of Clearing at Bournemouth University was exceptional… After such initial disappointment I finally smiled knowing I had a university to attend in September that I wanted to go to.
