Purbeck House

Purbeck House is a friendly accommodation block that’s home to more than 500 undergraduate students. It’s situated in the centre of our Lansdowne Campus, within easy reach of all of our buildings, as well as the train station, the centre of Bournemouth and the beach.

There’s also a Co-op over the road and the university bus (U1) picks up and drops off from just around the corner.

Purbeck House has cluster flats with five to seven bedrooms, each of which has an open-plan kitchen and living area. Within this space are comfy sofas, a breakfast bar with stools, lots of cupboard space and all the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’d expect in a kitchen.

All the bedrooms are ensuite and have a single bed, desk, wardrobe and shelving as standard. There are also five studio flats in Purbeck House available for undergraduate students, each with their own self-contained kitchen unit.

There’s a spacious common room on the ground floor with a pool table, a table football table, vending machines (including one for Ben & Jerry's ice cream), comfy sofas, a TV, tables and a separate study room. There’s also an outside courtyard between the two blocks that make up Purbeck House, which features a ping-pong table, several benches and a barbecue area, as well as a secure covered bike shelter. There’s a card-operated laundry room opposite the common room, which is open 24 hours a day.

Although reception isn’t manned 24 hours a day, there are always members of staff onsite to offer assistance if you need it, and CCTV is installed around the building.

Events are organised for residents regularly. The staff aim to create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere and are keen to get everyone to mix in the common room, making use of this welcoming space.

Purbeck House is managed by Unite in partnership with BU, so your contract will be with this company and not the university.
