Cranborne House is one of the lively accommodation blocks located on the Lansdowne Campus, home to around 500 undergraduate students. It is within walking distance of all our buildings on Lansdowne Campus, as well as the centre of Bournemouth, the beach and the Student Union-run nightclub The Old Fire Station.

The university bus service (U1 and U4) picks up and drops off right outside and it’s under a ten-minute walk to Bournemouth bus and train stations. You're also close to a large ASDA and numerous cafes, takeaways and restaurants.

There are six and seven-bedroom cluster flats in Cranborne House, each with a shared, kitchen and living area. In some flats this is an open-plan space, whereas in others, the kitchen and living area are split. They are all equipped with comfy seating, tables, storage cupboards and all the appliances (cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave) you’ll need.

All the rooms are ensuite, and there are standard and premium options. Standard rooms have a single bed, shelving, desk, cupboard and noticeboard, while the premium rooms have a four-foot bed, more storage space and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. There are also four studio flats, although these are usually reserved for postgraduate students.

The value rooms will be of a similar specification to the standard option, but are usually a bit smaller or an irregular shape.

The common room has a selection of comfy seating, a TV, a table football table, vending machine and a separate study area. There’s also an outdoor courtyard with a barbeque area and covered smoking shelter, as well as a secure bike compound and coin-operated laundry facilities.

Reception is manned 24 hours a day and there is also CCTV around the building. You’ll also be given a dedicated phone number for the reception when you move in and can call at any time if you need help with anything at all.

Note for students living in Cranborne House 2018/19:

In coming to study at Bournemouth University, you are joining a vibrant and growing student community. Contributing to this growth, during the academic year 2018/19, there are several new private (non-BU) student accommodation sites under construction in and around the main Lansdowne area of Bournemouth. We understand that these are due for completion within the next 18 months. Several of the current BU halls of residence are in close proximity to these new private development sites and so, at times, there may be may be additional noise and traffic in and around the immediate area of Cranborne House, Chesil House and Purbeck House. To help minimise the impact on the surrounding communities we have been advised by the developers that, as a rule, construction will not take place before 8am and after 6pm Monday to Saturday and not at all on Sundays or bank holidays.

In tandem to these new private student accommodation sites, BU is also developing the university’s latest academic ‘Gateway’ building on a site nearby to Cranborne House. When completed, the development will provide a brand new facility for our Faculty of Health and Social Science.

The Lansdowne area of Bournemouth continues to develop into an exciting student area and these new buildings will add to this. Whilst they are constructed BU will continue to work with the developers to limit disruption as much as possible, and we apologise if any inconvenience is experienced.
