Parents’ guide to accommodation

We understand that when your son or daughter goes to university, you’ll want to know they are living somewhere comfortable and safe, especially if it’s their first time living away from home.

Our guarantee

We guarantee accommodation for all undergraduate students who have selected BU as their firm choice, have submitted their UCAS application by midnight on 30 June 2019, or by midnight on 4 July 2019 for UCAS Extra applications and hold an Unconditional Firm offer of study (other terms and conditions may apply).

Accommodation options

We have a number of halls of residence close to both our campuses available to first-year students.

Our Unilet accommodation is university-managed shared housing and is another option for first-year students. These are privately owned properties that are fully furnished and designed for student lets.

In both halls of residence and Unilet properties, the cost of bills is included as part of the rent, making it easier for your son or daughter to budget. We also have a selection of accommodation for students with specific needs.

We can also provide support and advice to any students seeking private-rented accommodation.

You can find full details about all of our accommodation options, including the cost, in the accommodation section.

Independent living

Going to university presents a fantastic opportunity for your child to learn about living away from home, but with plenty of support on their doorstep. Our accommodation team, and those who work within the various halls of residence, will always be happy to help your son or daughter if they need anything.

We want their time at BU to help them develop on a personal level, as well as an academic one, and living away from home can be a big part of that. Our contracts are always with individual students, encouraging them to take responsibility and learn how to deal with everyday issues as they arise. If you are concerned about your son or daughter once they have moved to university, encourage them to contact the Residential Services team if they have any problems with their accommodation or are struggling to adjust to living away from home.
