Our Unconditional Offer Scheme is for applicants who are predicted to achieve strong academic results in recognition of their academic performance and potential to succeed at university. You will also receive an unconditional offer if you have met the entry requirements for your chosen course, such as having your confirmed results already.
Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions you may have about the scheme. If you still can’t find what you are looking for, please contact us for further information.
Who is eligible for the Scheme?
Applicants who are predicted to achieve strong academic results will be selected for BU’s Unconditional Offer Scheme in recognition of their academic performance and potential to succeed at university. You will need to commit to BU as your firm choice of university, for us to make your offer unconditional, which will guarantee your place at BU.
You will also receive an unconditional offer if you have met the entry requirements for your chosen course, such as having your confirmed results already.
How does the process work?
You will receive a conditional offer based on the entry requirements for your course via UCAS Track and your offer letter – it will advise that you are eligible for the unconditional offer scheme.
If you choose BU as your firm choice on UCAS Track, we will then update your offer to unconditional. This will usually be within 2-3 working days, but you will be notified by UCAS and a new offer letter. We believe that unconditional offers reduce pressure on applicants who will continue to strive to achieve the best grades possible, and we will reward you with an Academic Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 in your first year if you achieve AAA or above at A-level or equivalent.
What is the deadline for me to make a decision?
You need to accept your offer by selecting BU as your firm choice on UCAS Track by the relevant deadline.
The deadline to accept your offer is set by UCAS and will depend on when you receive all the decisions from the universities you applied for. Most applicants will fall into one of the categories below:
|Received all decisions from universities by||Applicants need to reply by|
|31 March 2018||2 May 2018|
|3 May 2018||7 June 2018|
|7 June 2018||21 June 2018|
|Offers received after 7 June 2018 (including exceptions and other categories)|
Alternatively, you can log in to UCAS Track, which will tell you what date you need to decide by.
What happens if I don’t make BU my firm choice?
If you choose BU as your insurance choice, you will need to meet the conditions of your offer.
Is there any specific criteria applicants have to meet?
Yes, Eligible applicants will be predicted strong academic results in addition to having an excellent personal statement and reference.
Is this scheme only for students completing A-levels?
No, BU will consider a broad range of other qualifications such as BTEC National Diplomas or International Baccalaureates.
We use the UCAS Tariff to show our entry requirements and will accept a combination of grades from your qualifications. You can use the UCAS calculator to see how your qualifications equate to tariff points.
Do applicants need GCSEs to be considered?
Yes, applicants will usually have GCSE qualifications or equivalent Year 11 results as this is evidence of past academic achievement.
Can I be considered for the Scheme if I’m an overseas applicant?
Yes, we can consider overseas applicants for this Scheme.
Are all undergraduate courses included in the Scheme?
Yes, all of our undergraduate courses are eligible for the Scheme.
What happens if I don’t meet the tariff points showing on my offer letter?
We will still accept you – an unconditional offer is just that, unconditional. We are demonstrating our belief in you and expect that in return, you continue to work hard and achieve good grades.
And don’t forget, if you achieve AAA or above at A-level or equivalent, you will be awarded an Academic Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 in your first year of study.
Can I change my reply to a firm acceptance later in the admissions cycle?
The Unconditional Offer Scheme will only be applied to a firm choice at BU, therefore if you choose to swap your replies (firm, insurance and decline) through UCAS, you will not be eligible for the Scheme.
Can I defer my offer to 2019?
Yes, your offer can be deferred until the following year.
Can I change my course after I’ve received an unconditional offer?
Yes, this may be possible. Please contact us if you would like to change your course and we will let you know what your options are.
How do I know if Bournemouth University is right for me?
At the end of the day, this is your future and only you can make the decision about what course/university you want to study at based on what is right for you.
We would recommend that you do plenty of research, attend open days and speak to current students about their experiences. Before you make a choice, you need to be sure that you’re going to be happy to live and study at the university for the next three or four years.
Some helpful questions to consider prior to accepting an offer:
- were there certain things that were important to you?
- was there a maximum distance from home that you wanted to live?
- are there specific features about the course that you wanted?
