Funding support for International students

There are a variety of ways you can fund your postgraduate study. We've provided an overview of some of the funding support below, including BU scholarships and discounts, as well as additional support for international students.

BU scholarships

We offer generous scholarships to international students, including the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which we award to all eligible applicants without a scholarship application. See the full list of scholarships for international postgraduate students

Fee discounts

Early payment discount - 5%

A 5% early payment discount is available for any student who pays their fees in full before or within seven days of enrolment. However, if you are being sponsored all or in part by your employer, you won’t be eligible for this discount. Please note that not all courses are eligible for this discount, including a number of courses delivered by the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences.

BU graduate discount - 20%*

If you have a Bachelor's degree (excluding Foundation degrees) from BU then you may be eligible for a 20% graduate loyalty discount on your tuition fees at postgraduate level. Please note that not all courses are eligible for this discount, including a number of courses delivered by the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences.

To apply for this discount, simply include the details of your existing BU degree on your postgraduate application form. You can apply for the graduate loyalty discount regardless of how long ago you first studied with us. As soon as your entitlement is confirmed, we will automatically apply the 20% discount to your fees.

This discount does not apply if you repeat a unit or the full course.

Student family discount - 20%*

A 20% discount is available for any overseas (non-EU) student who has an immediate family member who has graduated from BU or is currently studying at BU. An immediate family member is classed as a sibling, a parent, a child, a husband, a wife, or a civil partner.

This discount does not apply if you repeat a unit or the full course.

*Students can only be eligible for one of the student family, graduate/alumni or staff and staff family discounts.

Additional support

We want to provide you with all the support you need to succeed in your postgraduate studies. A range of financial support will be available to you once you have enrolled.

BU financial hardship funds

Emergency grant – These small grants are designed to provide very short-term assistance to students who are short of money. They are paid in denominations of £15, usually in the form of supermarket vouchers. Any BU student can apply for an emergency grant, but you will be asked to prove that you have very little or no money available.
