Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym)

This qualification is delivered by the Academy of Performance Coaching (part of SportBU) and will provide entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 2.

Active IQ provide the qualifications delivered by the top training providers in the country so utilise your connection with Bournemouth University and receive the same course at a fraction of the cost.

The blended learning programme allows you to complete most of your theoretical study in your own time (you will need access to a computer with the internet) with attendance at Bournemouth University for practical workshops and exams.

Entry requirements:

This qualification is open to all but a degree of physical fitness is necessary, as well as an understanding of the importance of good communication skills. Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights is highly recommended

Course details

Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing provides the knowledge and skills to enable you to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective gym sessions.

This course will include the following units:

  • Unit 1 – Anatomy and physiology for exercise (H/600/9013)
  • Unit 2 – Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity (M/600/9015)
  • Unit 3 – Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment (T/600/9016)
  • Unit 4 – Principles of exercise, fitness and health (A/600/9017)
  • Unit 5 – Planning gym-based exercise (F/600/9018)
  • Unit 6 – Instructing gym-based exercise (A/600/9020).

Your assessment will include:

  • Coursework portfolio
  • Multiple choice examinations
  • Practical assessment.
