Enhance your skills

Postgraduate Development Award

The Postgraduate Development Award (PGDA) is open to every student studying a Master's with us. It is designed to help you in your professional and personal development, away from your academic studies.

What are the benefits of the PGDA?

The PGDA can help you step outside your comfort zone and develop skills that will help you in every aspect of your life, not just with your studies. Among the benefits of getting involved with the award are:

  • Improving your communication skills
  • Enhancing your time management skills
  • Encouraging you to have new experiences
  • Helping you identify areas where you can improve
  • Building up your confidence
  • Introducing you to new people with various specialisms
  • Improving your study skills
  • Demonstrating your commitment to personal and professional development.

How does it work?

When you register for the PGDA, you’ll be asked to complete a skills audit. This will allow us to put together a plan for your award, which focuses on developing skills that will be of most use to you.

You’ll be awarded points for participating in certain activities and these will count towards your PGDA. You’ll also have to do some reflective writing and create an online portfolio, showcasing everything you’ve done towards your award.

How do you register?

You can register for the PGDA through myBU, so once you’ve started your course simply log in and sign up. If you’ve got any questions, you can email pgmasters@bournemouth.ac.uk or contact the Graduate School.
