There's a whole world out there

Other international opportunities

There are plenty of ways to have international experiences and gain intercultural competencies that don't involve a formal academic or professional commitment. You are welcome to organise your own activity that allows you to travel overseas. Among the options open to you are volunteering, field trips, short courses (i.e. language or summer schools), conferences and independent projects.

In many cases, these activities are facilitated by external organisations that may not necessarily be endorsed by BU, so it is important that you do your research carefully to ensure you have a valuable experience with tangible outcomes.

Funding

As with any activity taking place abroad, embarking on such international experiences will incur costs. You can cover some of these costs by applying for Global Horizons funding. You can receive a grant of up to £2,000, which will go a long way in covering your expenses, and does not need to be paid back. Visit Global Horizons well ahead of your planned activity to find out about eligibility criteria, application requirements and deadlines.
