The BYOMA short courses are open to creative and media professionals, as well as educators and educational researchers where applicable. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree and the required work experience in the relevant industry (normally a minimum of two years). It is also possible for non-graduates to apply if they have significant and relevant work experience (normally ten years) and can demonstrate an ability to both complete and benefit from the course.

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can read, write, speak and understand English to the level specified below.
English language requirements, for the BYOMA short courses are normally a minimum of one of the below:
- Successful completion of the Pre-Sessional English for University Study Programme
- IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with minimum 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in the other three components or equivalent. (View comparison scores between IELTS and TOEFL English language tests).
If you have alternative evidence of English language proficiency - for example you have a different English language qualification, you received the majority of your education through the medium of English, or you have a degree in English language/literature, please indicate this on your application form.
A number of pre-sessional English and preparatory programmes are offered through our partner institution, Bournemouth University International College, and will get you ready for study at BU at the appropriate level.
