How we use your data

We undertake to keep your personal information secure and use it responsibly.

Any personal information you give us is held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Data is securely held by the Alumni Association and will be treated confidentially and with sensitivity for the benefit of Bournemouth University and its members. The data is available to our Schools, academic and administrative departments, and to agents contracted by the University for particular alumni-related projects.

Data is used for a full range of alumni activities, including the sending of University publications, the promotion of benefits and services available to alumni, notification of alumni events and programmes involving academic and administrative departments. Data may also be used in fundraising programmes which might include an element of direct marketing organised by BU.

When we communicate with you electronically, we may make use of technologies such as monitoring e-mail open rates and web clicks to improve our service and better tailor future communications to you.

Under the terms of the 1998 Data Protection Act you have the right to object to the use of your data for any of the above purposes.
