Bournemouth University is an institution on the up, following rises in four major University league rankings this year.
Following three UK league table rises in 2015, the University has now entered the ranks of the top 500 universities in the world for the first time, according to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings. BU is one of only four post-92 UK institutions within the worldwide top 500, demonstrating the progress the university has made in recent years.
BU has also risen in all three major UK university league tables this year, with a rise of 11 places in the Complete University Guide to 54th nationally. A rise of six places in the Sunday Times Good University Guide takes BU from 88th to joint 82nd, while in the Guardian University League table 2016 BU was up eight places to 63rd nationally.
It is not just league table rankings that are responsible for BU’s rise – we are investing in new academic staff and our infrastructure with major development of the university’s campuses. The Lansdowne Campus has recently officially opened the newest building on Bournemouth’s skyline, the Bournemouth University International College, in partnership with Kaplan International Colleges, while BU’s new academic building on Talbot Campus is taking shape, having just had its ‘topping out’ ceremony, and is due to open in September 2016.
BU has also invested in its academic staff across all disciplines, welcoming many new professorial and teaching staff over the last 12 months - and students will enjoy the benefits right away. Our academic staff are also building BU’s reputation through research; in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, 96% of BU’s research was deemed to be of an international standard, with 18% deemed to be world-leading.
Our league tables rises this year evidence our other key achievements - Bournemouth University was the first university in England to receive a ‘Commended’ judgement for the quality of student learning opportunities from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the highest award possible.
Graduate employment rates at BU are consistently high, with employability enhanced by the wide range of work placements available across all faculties. The latest available independent data, which covers UK undergraduates, shows that 93.3% of graduates are in work or further study six months after graduating.
The University is an important player in the local economy – contributing in excess of £1 million a day to the South West region, with staff and students playing an active role in the local community, and BU is proud to be the official Higher Education partner of Premier League football club AFC Bournemouth.
